Help to Access Entertainment

CEA Card

The UK Cinema Association (UKCA) and its members have made visiting the cinema an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all. They fully appreciate that some disabled people face barriers at the cinema as a result of their disability.

Some disabled people need to be accompanied by someone else to enjoy the cinema experience. To make being accompanied as easy as possible, the UKCA operates the CEA Card scheme. The scheme allows a Cardholder to be accompanied by someone, free of charge, when they purchase a ticket to visit a participating cinema with that person. Neuro Disabilty Friendly Cinema

Some cinemas offer autism and dementia friendly film screenings to create a more comfortable and accessible environment for individuals with specific sensory or cognitive needs. These screenings are specially adapted to reduce common barriers that can make a typical cinema experience overwhelming or challenging. This can be helpful for people who have a brain injury as the adjustments made can include softer lighting, lower sound volume, clear signage, and the presence of supportive staff. Often, there are also opportunities for social interaction, which can help reduce isolation and support emotional well-being. Here are some links to Cinemas who offer these screenings:

The card translates your access requirements into easy-to-understand symbols, helping venues provide appropriate support without the need for lengthy explanations. The Access Card is widely accepted at over 3,000 venues across the UK, including cinemas, theatres, theme parks, and sports arenas . Additionally, the card can facilitate access to concessionary ticket prices and companion tickets where applicable .

How It Works

The card functions as a photo ID and displays up to nine symbols that represent specific access needs, such as:

  • Standing and Queuing: Indicates difficulty with standing or queuing for extended periods.

  • Level Access: Signifies the need for step-free or wheelchair-accessible routes.

  • Urgent Toilet Needs: Highlights the necessity for immediate access to toilet facilities.

Cost and Application
