MEET OUR TEAM
CATHY JOHNSON
Chair Person & Co-Founder
Cathy has been the chair of Headway Sefton since we began. She has supported her husband Jan through two separate traumatic brain injuries.
Cathy is the first point of call for many of our new members and leads with compassion and lived experience of what our members are facing.
Cathy is also part of The Act Foundation charity and now works as their Act 4 Hunger global Lead, having spent over two years working for their disaster relief team in Ukraine, Turkey and Morocco.
CAROL HOPWOOD
Branch Secretary & Co- Founder
Carol co-founded Sefton Headway alongside Cathy. In her professional life she is a Solicitor who specialises in helping clients with brain injuries and is the Head of the Catastrophic Injury Team at Carpenters group. She is also a public governor at The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
In 2013 Carol approached Headway UK to seek permission to open a local branch of Headway in Sefton. On the day permission was given she bumped into Cathy in a carpark and Headway Sefton was born.
Carol provides practical support and guidance to our members and coordinates many of our activities and newsletter.
JAN JOHNSON
Treasurer since 2014
Jan has decades of experience running a successful accountancy practice.
He is the survivor of two brain injuries and has been with the branch since its inception. Jan gives a unique perspective and ensures that the needs and wishes of brain injury survivors are at front and centre of all we do as a branch.
He is also the creator of the painting in the image backdrop based on his own experience being a brain injured person.
DAVID JENKINS
Founder of KIT Peer Support Group
David has been part of Headway Sefton since our first meeting. He is a brain injury survivor, committee member and founder of the weekly “Keep in touch” or KIT Group.
He also regularly represents Headway at events and conferences and is proactive in sharing information about our branch and all that it offers.
In 2023 David was shortlisted for a prestigious award – The Alex Richards Achiever of the Year Award for all of his hard work and commitment to others.
