Member Code of Conduct Headway Sefton

Introduction

Headway Sefton is place of support and understanding.  We aim to counter social isolation and offer emotional/practical support, activities and educational talks and events to support each other in the recovery journey.

In order for our services to provide a safe and enjoyable environment in which everyone can receive support, we have designed this code of conduct as a guideline of expectations.  This code of conduct applies to all attendees, members and guests at Headway Sefton Drop in, including any trips or activities and all online activities and communication on all message platforms.

Our aim is to provide:

  • Build a community of support, friendship, social activities and other events.

  • Activities to rebuild social networks and promote social inclusion.

  • An understanding of brain injury for members and their families.

  • Education on the impact of brain injuries on survivors

  • Promote opportunities for new experiences.

  • Provide a safe and inclusive space to meet others in a similar situation.

  • Opportunities to focus on existing skills and develop new ones.

We ask that you are:

  • Participative: participate in a positive manner to the best of your ability.

  • Communicative: You feel comfortable sharing your views and opinions, and you provide space and time to allow others to speak and share theirs. You are mindful of everyone’s level of communication and your use of language and how this may affect people.  You avoid bad language and derogatory comments.

  • Respectful: Have respect and an understanding that everyone is equal and that other people’s views, opinions, backgrounds, genders and religions may differ from yours.  Be mindful that neurological injury can impact people's processing speeds, tolerance of noise, fatigue, filters and behaviours. You should always be mindful of the impact your actions or words can have on others.  You must not belittle or criticise others.  We expect respectful behaviours and mutual respect for others.  Intimidation, bullying, physical aggression or threats, and verbal abuse will not be tolerated, and you will be asked to leave the group.  Headway Sefton is not the place for engaging in confrontational discussion concerning political, religious, homophobic and/or misogynistic views.

  • Responsible: Take responsibility for your own actions and behaviours and help us to create a safe and non-threatening group environment.  Be welcoming and courteous to new members. Comply with rules such as health and safety and do not consume alcohol or drugs.

What we expect from community members:

  • You are respectful for yourself and to others as well as property and belongings.

  • You do not over-power, intimidate or intrude on the personal space of others.

  • You do not conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause intimidation or offence to anyone attending Headway Sefton Drop in or other events.

  • You take responsibility for your actions and do not do or say anything in person or on any line/messaging platform that would damage our reputation or cause anxiety to existing or new members. IF you have any concerns you should raise them as soon as practicable with the Chairperson, branch secretary or any other committee member of your choosing.

  • These expectations extend to all on line activities and communication including any form of social media platform or messaging platforms.

  • You must not post onto any social medial platform or messenger channel linked to Headway Sefton any videos or jokes likely to cause offense.

  • You must not use any social media platform or messenger channel associated with Headway Sefton to promote activities not directly related to Headway Sefton.

What you can expect from Headway Sefton:

  • Regular activities designed to support life after brain injury.

  • Confidentiality, courtesy, respect, and dignity.

  • Appropriate information, guidance, and support to feel valued and to have the opportunity to be included and contribute.

  • Commitment to your privacy - You can learn more about how we handle your personal data and your rights by reviewing our privacy notice.

  • Grievance process - copy of the policies are available on the national website www.headway.org.uk, or your local Committee Members will provide you with a copy and support you if you wish to make a complaint.
